COLUMBUS, Ohio –Three standouts have committed to the Ohio State women’s tennis team, Melissa Schaub, Ohio State head coach, announced. Shiori Fukuda (Tokyo, Japan) and Maria Tyrina (Moscow, Russia) will join the Buckeyes in January, while Mary Beth Hurley (Novi, Michigan) will enroll in Ohio State in Fall 2017.
“We are extremely excited to add Shiori and Maria to our family this January,” Schaub said. “They are both very experienced tennis players and great kids. When they both came on their visit to Ohio State, we knew immediately they were a good fit for our program. They are both going to have a huge impact on our team moving forward and we can’t wait to get started with them.
“Mary Beth has always been a top competitor in the Midwest. With Mary Beth, you know you are getting someone that is going to work extremely hard and smart. She has had very good coaching growing up in Michigan and now at IMG. We are looking for her to step right in and make an impact next year.
“We are all about hard work, discipline and a team first mindset. These three, no doubt, share these qualities and are going to make Buckeye Nation proud.”
