COLUMBUS, Ohio – The second game of the Ohio State men’s hockey home series vs. Denver will be played at 7:05 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16 at Nationwide Arena in downtown Columbus, home of the NHL’s Columbus Blue Jackets. The first game of the series will be at 7:05 p.m. Friday in Value City Arena, the Buckeyes’ home rink, on the Ohio State campus.

The teams met in Denver last season, splitting the series Oct. 24-25. The Pioneers won the opener, 3-1, before the Buckeyes rallied to win the second game, 4-3.Ohio State and Denver both were NCAA tournament teams a season ago.

Ohio State is 6-0-2 all-time in games played in Nationwide Arena. The squad last played in NWA Dec. 29-30, 2006 when it won the Ohio Hockey Classic, downing Minnesota Duluth, 4-1, and Miami, 5-3. In the 2005 Ohio Hockey Classic the Buckeyes were 1-0-1, with a 4-0 win over Holy Cross (Dec. 29) and a 1-1 OT tie with Miami Dec. 30. In the 2004 OHC the Buckeyes had a 5-1 win over Minnesota State and a 1-1 OT tie with Colorado College. The team first played in the Blue Jackets’ arena in March 2003 when it swept Nebraska-Omaha in the first round of the CCHA playoffs (4-1 March 14, 3-1 March 15).

The Buckeyes begin their 2009-10 campaign with an exhibition game against Western Ontario at noon Oct. 4 in the OSU Ice Rink.
