COLUMBUS, Ohio– Behind three quarterfinal wins by No. 4 Johnni DiJulius (133 pounds), No. 1 Logan Stieber (141 pounds) and No. 3 Nick Heflin (197 pounds) Friday night, the eighth-ranked Ohio State wrestling team is in sixth-place tie with Virginia at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Collegiate Wrestling Invitational. The two-time defending champion Buckeyes were able to add to their team score of 32.5 following a fourth-place standing after the first session.

Oklahoma is leading the 33-team field with 84.5 points. Nebraska is in second place with 75 points, while Michigan rounds out the Top 3 with 72.5 points.

Seven Buckeyes advanced to their respective quarterfinal matches with three remaining in contention for a championship. DiJulius, a redshirt sophomore from Aurora, Ohio, was the first Buckeye to qualify for the semifinals when he beat fifth-seed Rosario Bruno of Michigan, 6-5. Stieber, a redshirt junior from Monroeville, Ohio, recorded his second fall of the event after downing No. 8 Danny Sabatello of Purdue in 44 seconds. Senior and Massillon, Ohio, native Heflin was successful in his final match of the day, a 6-3 victory over Braden Atwood of Purdue.

Nick Roberts (125 pounds), No. 7 Ian Paddock (149 pounds), No. 2 Kenny Courts (184 pounds) and No. 11 Nick Tavanello (HWT) dropped to wrestleback competition after setbacks in their quarterfinal bouts. Unseeded, Roberts (R-Fr., Hooversville, Pa.) defeated a pair of seeded wrestlers in No. 6 Tim Lambert of Nebraska, 5-4, and No. 11 Camden Eppert of Purdue, 4-1, before falling to No. 3 seed Tyler Cox of Wyoming in 6:09. Senior and Warsaw, N.Y., native Paddock faced No. 2 seed Jake Sueflohn of Nebraska in the quarterfinals and suffered a 10-2 loss. Redshirt sophomore and Harrisburg, Pa., native Courts dropped a close 9-8 decision to seventh-seed Timothy Dudley of Nebraska before Tavanello (R-Fr., Wadsworth, Ohio) lost, 3-2, to Ethan Hayes of Virginia.

Sophomore and Strongsville, Ohio, native Mark Martin (174 pounds) rebounded from a second-round loss to No. 1-seed Andrew Howe of Oklahoma and advanced after two wrestleback matches. Following a Patrick Kissel (Purdue) medical forfeit, Martin handed eighth-seed Dominic Kastl a 3-1 loss.
