%^$ COLUMBUS, Ohio – The seventh-ranked Ohio State women’s gymnastics team posted a solid all-around effort in handing No. 16 Penn State its first loss of the season, 195.350-194.700, Saturday night at St. John Arena. The Buckeyes’ score is the eighth-best in school history.%^$

%^$ Lindsey Vagedes (Sr., Warrenville, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South) led the Buckeyes (4-1) with a solid all-around effort, taking second-place laurels in the all-around with a season-best 39.35. Vagedes took runner-up honors on balance beam (9.825) and floor exercise (9.85) and added a third-place finish on uneven bars (9.85).%^$

%^$ Jill Tucker (Jr., Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls), tied for No. 1 in the nation with Vagedes on vault, showed why with a first-place finish (9.875), tying with Penn State’s Katie Rowland. Mary Beth Doerr (Jr., Boston Heights, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) won the uneven bars competition for the third-consecutive week, tying a career best with a 9.9.%^$

%^$ Susan Kinkaid (Sr., Lighthouse Point, Fla./Jupiter Christian) posted her best vault performance in nearly two years, scoring 9.85 to finish in third place. Stephanie Buerkel (Jr., West Chester, Pa./East) continued her comeback from a back injury, tying with Vagedes for third place on bars (9.85). Sarah Spring (So., Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) tied with Vagedes for second on floor, tallying 9.85.%^$

%^$ Penn State’s Katie Rowland captured the all-around title, recording a score of 39.45 to edge Vagedes by a tenth of a point. Rowland took first on floor (9.875) and beam (9.875) and tied for first on vault (9.875).%^$

%^$ Penn State falls to 2-1 with the loss. Ohio State returns to action Saturday, traveling to Illinois for an 8 p.m. co-ed meet.%^$
