No. 7 Ohio State Drops Match to No. 3 Michigan, 29-8

COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 7 Ohio State (5-1, 1-1) fell to No. 3 Michigan (5-0, 1-0) 29-8 Friday at the Covelli Center in front of a crowd of 4,125.

No. 2 Sammy Sasso put the first points on the board for the Buckeyes at 149 for his 26th-consecutive win in dual competitions. Sasso’s streak includes wins in 19-consecutive Big Ten duals.

125 | No. 18 Mailk Heinselman (OSU) vs. No. 1 Nick Suriano (UM)
Suriano struck first with a takedown about halfway into the first period. Heinselman recorded an escape followed by a Suriano takedown. Up 4-1 to start the second, Suriano escaped and added a takedown to lead 7-1 after two. Suriano built the lead in the third to win by major decision, 11-3.

133 | Will Betancourt (OSU) vs. No. 8 Dylan Ragusin (UM)
Ragusin took a 6-2 lead into the second period and an 11-3 advantage into the third. Ragusin closed out the final two minutes to win 14-5 by major decision.

141 | No. 21 Dylan D’Emilio (OSU) vs. No. 4 Stevan Micic (UM)
D’Emilio trailed 4-2 after the first three minutes and Micic improved the lead to 7-3 after the second period. D’Emilio recorded a takedown and a couple escapes in the third but Micic held on for the win by decision, 12-7

149 | No. 2 Sammy Sasso (OSU) vs. Cole Mattin (UM)
Mattin scored a minute into the first with a takedown. Sasso countered with an escape and a takedown to take the lead 3-2. Mattin tied it at 3 on an escape to head in the second tied at 3-all. Sasso started the second in the down position and scored a reversal to reclaim the lead, 5-3. Sasso added another takedown to lead 7-4 with two minutes to go. Sasso then upped the lead to win by decision, 9-4, to give the Buckeyes three team points.

157 | Jashon Hubbard (OSU) vs. No. 15 Will Lewan (UM)
Hubbard scored first but trailed after the first period, 3-2. Both wrestlers battled until a third period Lewan takedown secured the win by decision, 6-3.

165 | No. 7 Carson Kharchla (OSU) vs. Patrick Nolan (UM)
Kharchla came out strong with four first-period takedowns and a four-point near fall to lead 12-3 after the first period. The lead increased to 22-6 (6:30) for the win by technical fall.

174 | No. 7 Ethan Smith (OSU) vs. No. 6 Logan Massa (UM)
After a scoreless first period, Smith recorded a pair of takedowns in the second and lead 4-2 heading into the third. Massa added an escape, a takedown and a near fall in the third to win 10-5 by decision.

184 | No. 7 Kaleb Romero (OSU) vs. No. 2 Myles Amine (UM)
There was no score after the first three minutes. An escape put Amine up 1-0 heading into the third. A Romero escape tied it at 1-all heading into sudden victory. After a couple scrambles yielded no points for either wrestler, Amine got the winning takedown to win, 3-1.

197 | No. 20 Gavin Hoffman (OSU) vs. No. 8 Patrick Brucki (UM)
Hoffman trailed 2-1 after the first period. The Brucki lead increased to 5-1 after two and ended with a Brucki 5-2 win by decision.
