COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 10 Michigan Wolverines (8-3 overall, 2-0 in Big Ten) rallied with two goals in the final five minutes to upset the No. 7 Ohio State Buckeyes (8-2 overall, 1-2 in Big Ten), 3-2.
“Give Michigan credit, they didn’t give up and they outplayed us in the second half,” Ohio State head coach Anne Wilkinson said. “We’ll have to regroup and get ready for Michigan State on Sunday.”
The Buckeyes took the first lead of the game with 11:47 remaining in the first half. Deanna Menchini (Sr., Newtown Square, Pa.) found the back of the net to give OSU a 1-0 lead.
The Wolverines answered just two minutes later. Molly Powers scored when she redirected Kelli Gannon’s shot to give UM a 1-0 lead.
The Buckeyes took a 2-1 lead with 3:23 left in the half. Katie Hobson (Jr., Norristown, Pa.) tallied for her team leading ninth goal of the year. OSU held the lead for the next 33 minutes but UM rallied. With 4:46 left, Jessica Rose scored to tie the game. Less than a minute later, Courtney Reid fired a shot past OSU goalkeeper Gillian Batey (Fr., Victoria British, Columbia).
On Sunday, the Buckeyes close out their weekend when they play host to Michigan State at noon.
