No. 7 Buckeyes Notch 4-0 Victory over Purdue

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 7 Ohio State women’s tennis team defeated Purdue, 4-0, Friday evening in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center, improving to 11-5 overall and 4-0 in the Big Ten.

Ohio State took the doubles point with wins on court one from Irina Cantos Siemers and Sydni Ratliff (6-3) and court three from Kolie Allen and Danielle Willson (6-1). Shelly Bereznyak, Allen and Willson earned straight-set wins in single to clinch the Buckeye victory.

Quoting head coach Melissa Schaub

“I thought we played a solid match today. Shelly Bereznyak has been doing an amazing job for us this year and playing very good tennis. Kolie and Dani also getting wins today was great. Now we will get ready for a road match against Northwestern. We know it will be tough.”

In Doubles

• The Buckeye duo of Kolie Allen and Danielle Willson earned the first win of the day, defeating Juana Larranga and Kennedy Gibbs on court three, 6-1.
• After Purdue tied it up at 1-1 with a 6-4 win on court two, Ohio State clinched the doubles point with a court one with a victory from Irina Cantos and Sydni Ratliff by a score of 6-3 over Csilla Fodor and Liz Norma.

In Singles

• Shelly Bereznyak was undefeated in 12 games, rolling to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Kennedy Gibbs on court four to move the Buckeyes’ score to 2-0.
• Kolie Allen picked up Ohio State’s third point on the day with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Purdue’s Kennedy Gibbs.
• Danielle Willson clinched the victory, as she was a 6-2, 6-3 winner on court six against Juana Larranaga.
• Irina Cantos Siemers, Sydni Ratliff, and Lucia Marzal were all up a set on their respective courts when the team win was clinched and play was suspended on the remaining courts.
