COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 7/9 Ohio State women’s basketball team (12-2; 1-1 Big Ten) beat No. 20/20 Purdue (8-4; 1-1 Big Ten), 63-50, Sunday in front of a season-high 6,616 people at Value City Arena. Jessica Davenport scored 24 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for her fourth double-double this season. Brandie Hoskins and Caity Matter added 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Ohio State trailed 6-5 at 14:42, but used a 15-2 scoring run in the first half to establish a 20-8 lead with 3:35 until halftime. Purdue answered with a 9-0 scoring spurt of its own to cut the Buckeye advantage to 20-17 at the break.

Davenport opened the second half by scoring eight of Ohio State’s first 10 points and helped her squad establish a 10-point lead, 32-22, with 15:52 left in the game. The Buckeyes led by as many as 19 points twice in the second half and shot .583 (14-of-24) from the field to earn their first conference victory of the season.

Ohio State’s Kim Wilburn tallied five steals all in the first half, however the Buckeyes, who entered the game as the league’s top-shooting squad, were held to .276 (8-of-29) in the first 20 minutes. Purdue was plagued with turnover troubles and gave Ohio State the ball 17 times in the first 20 minutes.

The Buckeyes forced 25 Purdue turnovers for the game, which is a season-high for an Ohio State opponent. Ohio State dominated in the paint with a 32-10 advantage vs. the Boilermakers. The Buckeyes outrebounded Purdue 28-27. Purdue entered the contest averaging 41.5 caroms per game. Hoskins added six assists to her 13-point performance.

Purdue was led by Katie Gearlds and Erin Lawless, who netted 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The Buckeyes play host to No. 10/10 Michigan State at 8 p.m. Thursday in Value City Arena.
