COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 5-ranked Ohio State women’s tennis team defeated Indiana, 7-0, Friday, improving to 24-2 overall. The shutout of the Hoosiers (12-13, 3-7 B1G) marked the Buckeyes’ 31st consecutive home win, their 22nd straight victory in a conference regular season match and their seventh 7-0 win in a row.
The Buckeyes are now 10-0 in B1G play entering the final match of the regular season at noon Sunday vs. Purdue in Columbus. A victory over the Boilermakers would give Ohio State at least a share of a second consecutive Big Ten regular season schedule. Michigan is also 10-0 this spring and travels to face Illinois Sunday. Ohio State and the Wolverines do not meet in a conference match this season.
“I’m proud of this team,” Melissa Schaub, Ohio State head coach, said. “They have put in a lot of work. They all work hard and take care of their each individual courts. We are playing well and will see what happens Sunday.”
Against Indiana, the Buckeyes gained the 1-0 advantage going into singles after clinching the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. Francesca Di Lorenzo, Anna Sanford, Gabriella De Santis, Miho Kowase, Ferny Angeles Paz and Sandy Niehaus all posted singles win to help secure the 17th shutout of the season.

No. 1 Di Lorenzo downed Appel, 6-1, 6-0, on court one to pick up her 15th consecutive win and secure the team victory against Indiana.
On court three, No. 91 De Santis defeated Bernard, 6-3, 6-1. No. 97 Kowase topped Jahren, 6-2, 6-3, on court four. No. 59 Sanford secured the Buckeye shutout over the Hoosiers with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 win over Gutierrez. Niehaus, Di Lorenzo and Angeles Paz all hit the 20-win mark for the dual match season with their victories and have matching 20-1 records this spring. Kowase leads the team with a 21-0 mark.
This year, the Buckeyes have outscored their opponents in B1G matches 69-1. The squad is 59-1 in singles and 22-1 in doubles in league matches. The shutout was the team’s 17th of the season to set the program record for whitewashes in a campaign.
Up next, the squad will take on Purdue at noon Sunday on Senior Day. The match is scheduled to be played outside, but will be moved inside the Varsity Tennis Center in the case of inclement weather.
