No. 5 Buckeyes Set to Host No. 7 Navy for Senior Day

COLUMBUS, Ohio- The No. 5-ranked Ohio State men’s gymnastics team is set to host No. 7 Navy to conclude the Buckeyes home meets of the 2020 season and begins the second half of season competition. Ohio State remains No. 5 after placing second at the Southwest Cup. The meet will also feature Ohio State’s senior day, honoring Michael Chan and Robert Costea Jr. The meet is slated for 2 p.m. ET on Saturday, Feb. 29 and will be streamed on Big Ten plus.

Last Time Out

The Scarlet and Gray last competed the weekend of Feb. 8th when they traveled to the Southwest Cup taking second place behind No. 1 Stanford. The Buckeyes defeated No. 11 Cal and No. 12 Arizona State with a score of 408.150.

On floor, the Buckeyes took the top two spots, freshman, Kazuki Hayashi placing first (14.150) and sophomore, Jesse Tyndall placing second (14.000). Pommel horse followed the same order with Ohio State taking the first and second spots with sophomore Trevor Cummings (14.250) followed by sophomore Luke Smigliani (14.050, new career-high). Sophomore, Angel Leon set a new personal best on rings with a score of 14.150, placing fourth. Another career-high was set by freshman, Jakob Murray placing sixth on vault (14.500). Sophomore, Jesse Tyndall placed in the top-five on high bar with a score of 13.500, earning him the fifth-place spot. Overall, the team set two new overall score season bests on pommel horse (67.600) and parallel bars (69.700).

Navy Scouting Report 

Navy last competed at the All-Academy Championship Feb. 8 placing first of three teams with a score of 407.700 against No. 14 Army and No. 16 Air Force.

As a team, Navy scored 69.850 points on the floor exercise, 64.800 on the pommel horse, 69.950 on the rings, 70.850 on the vault, 65.600 on the parallel bars and 66.650 on the high bar. The Mids placed first in four rotations; the floor, rings, parallel bars, and high bar. The Mids are 10-2 on the season to make for a competitive meet this weekend.
