No. 5 Buckeyes Heading to Texas for Season Opener

The Ohio State University Rifle Team is ranked No. 5 by the College Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) in their first poll of the season. WVU took the top spot in the rankings followed by No. 2 TCU, defending NCAA Champions Kentucky at No. 3, and No. 4 Murray State University. Air Force is ranked No. 6, followed by Nebraska, Alaska-Fairbanks, Mississippi, and Navy. Ohio State’s 2018-19 schedule will see them compete against eight of the nine teams that will start the season ranked in the top 10. Coach Tanoue said,

“The CRCA Pre-Season Poll is directly based on votes submitted by all of the NCAA Rifle Coaches so it is really a great sign of respect for our team to be ranked 5th to start the season. That said, of course it’s the ranking at the end of the season that matters the most and our schedule will provide many fantastic competitive opportunities throughout the season. Having nearly the entire top 10 on our schedule throughout the year isn’t an accident and we look forward to taking advantage of the many challenges these teams and venues will present as the season progresses.”

The Buckeyes will head to El Paso, Texas to get their season underway with a pair of matches against No. 20 UTEP on Saturday and Sunday, September 29th and 30th. Coach Tanoue stated,

“We are very excited to head to El Paso to get our season underway. Austin Litherland is UTEP’s new head coach this season and we’re looking forward to being his first home opponent. It is always an additional challenge to start the season on the road, but I know that getting out of our comfort zone and challenging ourselves at a new range for several of the members of our travel team will be a great test to start the year.”
