COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State University women’s ice hockey team rallied after falling behind early to defeat the St. Cloud State University Huskies 3-2 on Friday night at the OSU Ice Rink.
The Nitty Gritty
The Buckeyes came out strong early in the first and put 16 shots-on-goal, but could not convert any of those into goals. St. Cloud scored two quick goals near the end of the period to take a 2-0 lead into the intermission.
Ohio State kept plugging away in the second, adding 12 more SOG. Maltais got things started after playing a puck from Reeves and burying it into the back of the net at the 12:44 point of the period. Always in the right place at the right time, Field knotted things up late in the period after Maltais fed her the puck near the St. Cloud goaltender, sending the game into the third tied at 2-2.
The Buckeyes came out in the third looking to end things in regulation and threw 17 SOG, but all they’d need is one. That golden goal came from Field, her fourth game winning goal of the year, with less than 10 minutes to play. From there OSU locked down the Huskies to get the 3-2 win. Ohio State goaltender Andrea Braendli finished with 18 saves.
The Buckeyes hit the ice tomorrow looking for a sweep. Puck drop for the series finale is set for 3:07 p.m. on Saturday at the OSU Ice Rink.
