COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 4 Ohio State men’s gymnastics team posted its second-highest team score this season Saturday evening at Burnham Pavilion in Palo Alto, Calif., earning an overall score of 442.40 en route to a second-place finish against No. 2 Stanford, No. 10 California and Arizona State.

Stanford claimed first place with an overall team score of 446.45, while California scored a 432.45 to finish third and Arizona State scored a 406.10 to finish fourth.

Two Buckeyes claimed individual event titles at the quad meet. Junior Danny Steiner won floor exercise with a season-high 15.35 and redshirt senior Michael Newburger claimed his third individual event title this season on pommel horse with a 15.70.

In addition, Ohio State posted a season best score of 74.05 on floor exercise and a program best score of 74.25 on pommel horse.

The Scarlet and Gray opened the meet on pommel horse. Behind Newburger, sophomore Jake Martin posted a 15.20 for a fifth-place overall finish and freshman Sean Melton scored a career-high 15.05 to round out the top three scorers.

The Buckeyes moved to rings for the second rotation, where junior Drew Moling posted a 14.90 to finish in fifth place overall. Junior Alex Nork scored a career-high 14.85 and Martin notched a 14.75 to post the second and third best scores on the team.

Ohio State earned the top two overall finishes on floor exercise during the third rotation. Behind Steiner, freshman Jake Dastrup scored a career-high 15.20 to earn second place while senior Brandän Jones scored a 14.65 to earn the third-best score on the team.

Melton led the Buckeyes on parallel bars in the fourth rotation, scoring a career-high 15.60 to place second overall. Following Melton, Dastrup scored a 14.90 and senior Misha Koudinov tallied a 14.60.

The Buckeyes traveled to high bar for the fifth rotation. Martin paced the squad with a 15.10 to tie for second place overall while Melton took fifth-place overall with a 14.80. Sophomore Alex Johnson and freshman Andrew Rickly each scored a 14.35 to round out the top Buckeye scorers.

The Scarlet and Gray finished the meet on vault, where Martin posted a 15.30 to finish fourth overall and Dastrup earned a career-high 15.15 to finish fifth. Freshman Logan Melander scored a 14.95 to finish third on the team.

The Buckeyes return to St. John Arena Saturday, March 15 at 4 p.m. for their final home meet of the season against No. 1 Oklahoma and Temple. The meet marks Senior Day for Will Jeffreys, Brandän Jones, Misha Koudinov, Michael Newburger and Nick Tagliaferro, who will be honored in a ceremony before the start of the meet.
