COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 3 Buckeye first varsity eight was defeated by No. 5 Michigan to end its undefeated streak Friday at Lake Belleville in Ann Arbor, Mich. Because of an unfavorable weather forecast, the regatta originally scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday was changed to 5:15 p.m. Friday. Overall, Ohio State finished with a 1-5 record in the regatta.

“There was a lot of close racing, but unfortunately we came out on the short end,” Andy Teitelbaum, Ohio State head coach, said. “My hat goes off to Michigan and we know that we need to regroup and get some work done.”

The first varsity eight was defeated by Michigan’s top boat by 3 seconds. The Wolverines finished with a time of 6:11.0 and the Buckeyes followed with a time of 6:14.0.

The second varsity eight captured the lone victory of the day topping Michigan by 5.5 seconds. OSU finished with a time of 6:21.1 and Michigan finished with a time of 6:26.6.

Ohio State’s first and second varsity four boats both suffered losses on the day. The first varsity four was defeated by 1.8 seconds. Michigan came in first at 7:15.0 and OSU finished at 7:16.8. The second varsity four finished with a time of 7:27.1, 4.1 seconds behind Michigan.

The Buckeye novice teams both took second place behind the Michigan novice boats. The first novice boat finished at 6:47.5, 6.8 seconds behind Michigan and the second novice boat also ended race 6.8 seconds behind the Wolverines.

Next time out, Ohio State will return home April 9 to face No. 4 Brown, No. 11 Michigan State and Rutgers at 8 a.m. at Griggs Reservoir on the Scioto River in Columbus, Ohio.
