Box Score

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – No. 3/5 Ohio State was shut out at No. 6 Colorado College, 1-0, Saturday in Colorado Springs, Colo. CC scored late in the first period and the goal stood up, as CC goalie Matt Zaba made 34 saves in the game.

The loss evens the Buckeye record to 1-1 on the year, while the Tigers improve to 3-1. OSU won the series opener Friday, 4-2.

“We’re disappointed with the loss,” John Markell, Ohio State head coach, said. “We had a chance to win two games this weekend. We held a good Colorado College team to one goal in their building but we couldn’t get the puck by them. It was a good series. We wanted a series like this to prepare ourselves for conference play,”

Colorado College ended the first period ahead, 1-0, on the strength of a Marty Sertich goal, as he got to a rebound just outside the crease. The Buckeyes had 14 shots in the period, the Tigers 10.

There was no scoring in the second period. The Buckeyes put 11 shots on net, but were not able to get the puck past CC goalie Matt Zaba. Buckeye goalie Dave Caruso (Roswell, Ga.) stopped all seven Tigers shots in the period. OSU held the Tigers scoreless on four power-play chances in the period.

The teams were scoreless through the third period as well. OSU had nine shots in the period, while the Tigers had six. The Buckeyes pulled Caruso with 50 seconds remaining for the extra attacker, but were unable to score.

Caruso made 21 saves in the game in 59:10 in net. Zaba stopped all 34 Buckeye attempts in 60 minutes.

Ohio State was unable to score on six power play chances in the game and held the Tigers scoreless on five opportunities.

Postgame Notes The Buckeyes return to action at 7:05 p.m. EDT Thursday when they open Central Collegiate Hockey Association play at Bowling Green in Bowling Green, Ohio. Ohio State opens its home schedule against the Falcons at 7:05 p.m. Friday in Value City Arena.
