COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 3/4 Ohio State women’s basketball team (19-2; 6-1 Big Ten) beat Northwestern (4-16; 1-6 Big Ten) 71-59 Sunday at Value City Arena. The Buckeyes, who won their eighth-straight game, were led by Brandie Hoskins. Hoskins scored 18 points off a 7-of-9 afternoon from the field.

Ohio State opened the game by taking a 24-10 lead at 12:02. Northwestern held the Buckeyes scoreless for more than seven minutes and tallied nine consecutive points to bring the contest to 24-19 with 6:14 left until halftime.

NU pulled the game to within five points once more before the Buckeyes outscored the visiting Wildcats 11-0 in the final 1:50 of the half. In the last 10 seconds, Jessica Davenport converted a three-point play before Hoskins stole the ball on the next play. Hoskins went one-on-one and hit a jumper with two seconds until halftime to make it 35-21 in favor of OSU at the break.

In the second, the Buckeyes stretched the lead to as many as 30 points twice. Northwestern was able to cut the lead to 12 points by scoring 25 points vs. OSU’s seven in the final 10:34. The Buckeyes won their sixth Big Ten game of the season, 71-59.

Hoskins added six rebounds, one assist and one steal to her 18 points. Davenport scored 14 and Michelle Muñoz netted 11.

Davenport led both teams with seven boards and blocked four shots. Ashley Allen dished seven helpers and turned the ball over only twice in 30 minutes of play. Northwestern was led by Ifeoma Okonkwo, who scored 20 points, and Sarah Kwasinski, who tallied 12.

The Buckeyes travel to take on the Badgers at 8 p.m. EST at the Kohl Center in Madison, Wis.
