Scouting The Spartans
No. 9/10 Michigan State is 16-1 and in first place in the Big Ten with a 4-0 mark after scoring a 63-60 win over Iowa at home Thursday. They are one of the top defensive teams in the Big Ten, holding opponents to league lows of 52.9 points per game, 36.4 percent from the field and 27.5 percent from the 3-point arc. They also lead the Big Ten in rebounding margin (+8.1), steals (11.0), offensive rebounds (15.1) and scoring margin (+17.2). Senior forward Kalisha Keane leads the Spartans with 16.2 ppg while junior forward Lykendra Johnson tops the Big Ten in steals with 2.7 per game. Junior forward Taylor Alton leads the Big Ten in three-point shooting at 51.4 percent.  Suzy Merchant (Notre Dame, 1992) is in her fourth year at Michigan State with a record of 94-36 and 285-156 in her 16th season overall.
