DEKALB, Ill. – The No. 23 Ohio State women’s volleyball team captured the NIU Invitational title with a 3-2 (22-25, 25-12, 25-22, 20-25, 15-9) victory over host Northern Illinois Saturday night in DeKalb, Ill. The Buckeyes improved to 3-0 on the season in the win, while the Huskies fell to 2-1.

Junior setter Taylor Sherwin was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, while seniors Kaitlyn Leary and Davionna DiSalvatore joined her on the All-Tournament team.

Leary put together a career night for the Buckeyes, picking up the first double-double in her career with a career-high 26 kills and 22 digs. Freshman Kylie Randall made her first collegiate appearance and finished second on the squad with 18 kills in the win. Sherwin guided the Buckeye offense with 50 assists overall.

DiSalvatore paced the Ohio State defense with a season-best 29 digs, while senior Julianne Mandolfo added a 15 digs in the victory. Junior Anna Faul, Sandbothe and Randall each had three blocks for the squad.

NIU was led by a trio of Huskies with double-digit kills. Sarah Angelos had 17 to lead the team, while Mackenzie Roddy added 15 and Jenna Radtke chipped in 11. Libero Justine Schepler finished with 22 digs and Radtke had a match-best eight blocks (2s, 6a).

Ohio State returns to St. John Arena Sept. 4 for a 7 p.m. ET exhibition match vs. the Poland National Team. The Buckeyes then travel to Tallahassee, Fla., for the Four Points by Sheraton Seminole Invitational, Sept. 6-7.
