LINCOLN, Neb. – The No. 23 Ohio State men’s basketball team picked up a 75-54 victory over Nebraska Thursday night at Pinnacle Bank Arena. With the win, the Buckeyes move to 19-9 on the year, 9-8 in the Big Ten, while the Cornhuskers drop to 7-21, 2-15 in conference play.
The Buckeyes host No. 19 Michigan at 4 p.m. Sunday at Value City Arena.
Kaleb Wesson went for 16 points and a career-high 18 rebounds for his 11th double-double of the year while CJ Walker went for 15 points and five boards and Duane Washington Jr. poured in 14 points. Dachon Burke led Nebraska with 13 points while Cam Mack added 12.
Ohio State hit nine of its first 11 shots, including three-straight 3-pointers from Washington Jr. to open the game, as the Buckeyes sprinted out to a 26-12 lead with 10:50 remaining. However, as the Buckeyes went on to miss their next 11 shots from the field, Ohio State stepped it up on the defensive end, limiting Nebraska to just three of its next 11 from the floor to extend its advantage to 39-18 with 2:59 left in the half before taking a 43-27 advantage into the break.
Washington Jr. paced the Buckeyes with 14 in the opening 20 minutes while Walker added 11. Mack led the Huskers with seven.
Ohio State then pushed its lead to a game-high 21 at 55-34 on a Luther Muhammad layup with 14:07 left in the game. The Huskers cut the deficit to 59-43 on a Jervay Green layup with 10:43 left but they’d get no closer as the Buckeyes improved to 9-8 in conference play.
For the game, Ohio State held a 48-33 lead on the boards and limited the Huskers to 18.8 percent (3-for-16) from deep.
