COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 20 Ohio State women’s gymnastics team posted a season high team score, topping No. 18 Illinois 196.300-195.450 Saturday afternoon in St. John Arena.

The Buckeyes began the meet on vault, topping the Illini 48.800-48.325. Sarah Miller tied her career best with a 9.950 to take the event title while Melanie Shaffer tied her season-high 9.850 to finish third.

Ohio State moved to bars in the second rotation, tallying a season-best 49.175 to win the event. Shaffer posted a career-high 9.900 for a first-place finish and Aly Marohn notched a 9.875 to finish second.

In the third rotation, Ohio State tied its season high with a 49.075 on beam but Illinois won the event with a 49.225. Miller won the event title with a 9.925 while Victoria Aepli tied her career-best 9.850 to tie for third.

The Buckeyes closed the meet on floor exercise, topping Illinois 49.250-48.950 with another season best score. Miller and Shaffer each tied for the event title with a 9.875.

Shaffer tied her career-best 39.350 to take the all-around title while Marohn finished tied for fourth with a 39.025.

Up next, the Buckeyes hit the road to take on Illinois State at 6 p.m. March 3.
