COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 20 Ohio State women’s soccer team played to a scoreless draw against Wisconsin Sunday afternoon at Bert L. & Iris S. Wolstein Field at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The Buckeyes now sit at 5-2-2 on the year, 0-1-1 in the Big Ten, while the Badgers are 3-4-3 overall, also 0-1-1 in conference play.
“I’m encouraged by our effort but I think we need to take responsibility for our lack of execution in our finishing,” Lori Walker, Ohio State head coach, said. “We created a lot of good chances but creating chances doesn’t give you point. I’m encouraged with the work we put in over 110 minutes but disappointed we didn’t come away with three points.”
Wisconsin had its first chance in the eighth minute when Marisa Kresge possessed at the center of the box after a failed Ohio State clearance but her shot from 12 yards was cleared off the line by a Buckeye defender.
The Buckeyes almost took the lead in the 22nd minute when Michela Paradiso gathered in the midfield and dribbled toward the top of the box but her shot from 20 yards narrowly missed wide left.
Neither team was able to threaten late in the half as the match stayed scoreless through the first 45 minutes. Ohio State held a 7-5 advantage in shots, 3-1 on goal, while Wisconsin held a 6-3 lead in corner kicks.
The Badgers had another opportunity in the 71st minute when Victoria Pickett beat an Ohio State defender on the right wing and tried to go near post but Ohio State goalkeeper Devon Kerr was able to make the lunging save to keep the match scoreless.
Ohio State had another chance with less than a minute remaining when a cross from Nichelle Prince found Sydney Dudley on the right side of the six-yard box but her strike sailed into the arms of Clem as the match headed to overtime.
The best chance of the first period of overtime came in the 98th minute when Prince played a cross to an open Sammy Edwards at the center of the box but Clem again came out to make the diving save to keep the match scoreless.
Ohio State then had another great opportunity in the 108th minute when it appeared Prince finished off a Lindsay Agnew assist but the junior was whistled offside as the match ended in a scoreless draw.
For the game, the Buckeyes held a 13-12 advantage in shots, 6-5 on goal. Kerr finished with four saves for the Buckeyes while Clem made six stops for the Badgers.
Ohio State hits the road to face Iowa at 8 p.m. ET Friday and Nebraska at 2:05 p.m. ET Sunday.
