COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2-ranked Ohio State women’s hockey team fell to No. 1-ranked Wisconsin, 3-1, Saturday afternoon in LaBahn Arena in Madison, Wis. The loss was the first of the season for the Buckeyes, who are now 6-1-0 overall and in WCHA play, while the Badgers stay undefeated at 9-0-0 on the year and 5-0-0 in league play.  

How it Happened

Ohio State scored the first goal of the game, with Gabby Rosenthal tallying from the left faceoff circle at 8:11 of the opening period shortly after Ohio State killed a Badger power play. The goal, her sixth of the year, was set up by Jenna Buglioni. Wisconsin scored three unanswered for the win. Just 1:55 into the second period Grace Bowlby tied the game at one and at 17:34 of the second Casey O’Brien put Wisconsin ahead for the first time. Daryl Watts sealed the win with an empty net goal in the final minute. Ohio State was outshot, 37-28, with Andrea Braendli making 34 saves in 58:41.

Game Notes

  • The Buckeyes were 3-for-3 on the penalty kill in the game and have not given up a power play goal this year, killing all 19 opponent chances.
  • Ohio State held Wisconsin scoreless on a 5-on-3 power play chance for more than a minute in the third period to keep it a one-goal game.
  • Rosenthal leads the Buckeyes with six goals and Buglioni is first with 12 points.
  • Ohio State was held to less than three goals for the first time this season.
