COLUMBUS, Ohio – In its third-consecutive road meet, the 19th-ranked Ohio State women’s gymnastics team scored a 194.00 at Illinois Saturday night, but the Illini scored a season-high 194.950 to win a dual meet with the Buckeyes in Champaign, Ill. The team score for Ohio State is just above its season average of 193.908, which should keep the Buckeyes among the nation’s Top 20.
OSU sophomore Kiki Holman (Greenfield, Minn./Rockford) collected two career highs in the meet, including a 9.875 on vault that won the meet, while junior Kaylan Clevinger (Shawnee Mission, Kan./Notre Dame de Sion) placed second in the all-around with a team-best 39.025.
The Buckeyes won vault with a team score of 48.800, while scoring a 48.675 on bars, a 48.425 on floor and a 47.850 on beam.
“The scoring was tight but the team performed well,” Carey Fagan, Ohio State head coach, said. “I think any time you can go into an away meet and come out with a 194-plus you have to feel good about it. In the final rotation, our girls handled the pressure on beam better than last time we were on the road. We had to count one fall but for the most part we competed well and it was a step in the right direction.”
Holman also notched a career high on beam with a 9.70. Clevinger won bars with a career-high 9.825 and was among OSU’s Top 3 on every event.
OSU junior Maalika Moore-Thomas (Tampa, Fla./King) took third in the meet in the all-around with a 38.950 that included a second-place 9.825 on vault behind Holman and a third-place 9.775 on floor. Junior Jessica Rosette (Green Cove, Fla./Episcopal), who also competed in the all-around, led the Buckeyes on floor with a career-high 9.80 that took second in the meet.
Other top scores for the Buckeyes included senior Brittany Livingston (Lisle, Ill./Wheaton North) with a season-high 9.80 on bars, sophomore Amanda Surine (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) with a 9.725 on vault and Rosette with a 9.70 on bars, while sophomore Alyssa Meyer (Chesterfield, Mo./John F. Kennedy) took fifth overall in the all-around with a 38.60.
Ohio State returns to St. John Arena next Saturday when the Buckeyes host Air Force at 7 p.m.
