LINCOLN, Neb. – No. 19/20 Nebraska won by identical 8-0 scores in a doubleheader at Bowlin Stadium on Saturday to sweep a three-game series from the Buckeyes. With the losses, Ohio State is now 20-23 overall and 6-9 in the Big Ten while Nebraska improves to 33-13 (11-4 Big Ten).

Game One: Nebraska 8, Ohio State 0
Nebraska jumped out on top in the bottom of the second thanks a leadoff home run by Tatum Edwards. The Huskers tacked on two runs in the bottom of the second on a solo home run from Kylee Muir and run-scoring single by Hailey Decker.

In the top of the fourth, Ohio State threatened with singles from Taylor Watkins and Evelyn Carrillo, but a fielder’s choice with one out and groundout with two outs ended the Buckeyes’ half of the inning.

The Cornhuskers scored three times on four hits in the bottom of the fourth, keyed by an RBI single from Tatum Edwards and a RBI single that scored two runs by Alicia Armstrong. The Buckeyes were able to avoid any further damage by getting a pop up to shortstop and ground out to third.

Watkins made the defensive play of the game in the bottom of the fifth when she stretched over the top of the center field wall to rob Muir of a home run.  Kat Woolman followed with a solo home run to left field to make the score 7-0 and the Huskers threatened again with a single and walk, but the inning ended on a strike out by Hailey Decker and fly out by Tatum Edwards.

Nebraska ended the game in the bottom of the sixth when Kiki Stokes hit a solo home run to right field. The Buckeyes’ Olivia O’Reilly went 5.2 innings and gave up eight runs and 12 hits. At the plate, Watkins went 2-for-3 while Carrillo, Leonard and Keelia Nester each had a hit.

Game Two: Nebraska 8, Ohio State 0
Ohio State’s first scoring opportunity came in the top of the second when the Buckeyes had runners at first and second with one out. The Buckeyes were not able to push across any runs, however, as Anna Kirk struck out and pinch hitter Leesa Gresham grounded into a fielder’s choice at second.

In the top of the third, Ohio State had two on and two outs after a walk and a hit batter, but Jayla Saibene struck out swinging to end the threat.

Taylor Edwards hit her 15th home run of the season with one out in the bottom of the third to give the Cornhuskers a 1-0 lead. Starting pitcher Shelby Hursh quickly recovered however, and following a walk, she got a fly out to right field and pop up to second base to end the inning.

A leadoff single by Nester got things started in the top of the fifth, and following a fielder’s choice by Caitlin Conrad, Watkins picked up her fourth hit of the day when she singled to left field. The threat ended, however, with a fly out to center field and ground out to shortstop.

Nebraska struck for seven runs in the bottom of the fifth on six hits and one Buckeye error. The biggest blows of the inning were run-scoring doubles by Tatum Edwards and Austen Urness and a RBI single from MJ Knighten.

Ohio State is back in action when it hosts Penn State for a doubleheader on Wednesday beginning at 4 p.m. Both games of the doubleheader can be seen live on the Big Ten Network.
