COLUMBUS, Ohio – The 18th-ranked Ohio State (8-4 overall, 1-2 American Lacrosse Conference) women’s lacrosse team suffered a 12-11 loss at 10th-ranked Vanderbilt (9-3, 5-0) Sunday afternoon in the Vanderbilt Football Stadium. OSU’s Megan Mirick (Sr., Burke, Va.) and Shannon Wilson (Jr., Sherkston, Ontario) scored three goals each for the Buckeyes with Regina Oliver (Fr., Pottstown, Pa.) adding two. Tracey Bounds (Jr., Ellicott City, Md.), Kelly Cook (So., Dowingtown, Pa.) and Carrie Weatherill (So., Malvern, Pa.) scored single goals for OSU. Jeannie Crawley (Jr., Darien, Conn.) and Jess Roguski (So., Eldersbery, Md.) had three goals each for Vanderbilt. Tara Schmucker (Jr., Jamison, Pa.) and Mary McCeney (So., Baltimore, Md.) scored two goals each for the Commodores with Kinsey Osberg (Sr., Darien, Conn.) and Kelly Devlin (So., Sparks, Md.) completing the scoring with single goals.

Ohio State opened the scoring just 14 seconds into the game with a goal by Mirck, assisted by Wilson. Vanderbilt took a 2-1 lead on two goals by Crawley, the first (1:05) assisted by Devlin and the second (1:39) by Drennan. The Buckeyes scored the next seven goals to take an 8-2 lead. Cook opened the run at 11:09. Bounds’ goal at 13:06 was assisted by Kylee Reade (Sr., London, Ontario). Wilson scored at 14:12 followed by Mirick’s second goal at 15:24. Wilson’s second (20:44) and third (22:50) goals made it 7-2. Oliver completed the scoring run at 24:37, assisted by Bounds. Vanderbilt goals by Schmucker at 26:22 on a free position shot and by McCeney at 29:33, assisted by Drennan, ended the half with Ohio State leading, 8-4.

Weatherill opened the second half scoring at 30:25, giving OSU a 9-4 lead. Vanderbilt goals by Roguski, the first at 32:13, assisted by Drennan, the second at 32:33, Crawley (38:57), assisted by Devlin, and Roguski’s third goal at 38:57, assisted by Crawley cut OSU’s lead to one at 9-8. Mirick’s third goal at 40:30 gave OSU a 10-8 lead. The Commodores used goals by Devlin at 47:56, assisted by Drennan and McCeney at 51:25, assisted by Osberg to tie the game at 10. Osberg’s goal at 53:35, assisted by Schmucker gave Vanderbilt an 11-10 lead. Schmucker scored the winning goal at 56:13 for a 12-10 lead. OSU’s Oliver scored at 58:45 to cut the Commodore lead to 12-11 and OSU would come no closer.

Ohio State returns to action next week with two home contests. The Buckeyes will host Penn State at 7 p.m., Friday, April 26 and face Davidson at 1 p.m., Sunday, April 28.
