COLUMBUS, Ohio – – The No. 17 Ohio State men’s tennis team defeated No. 19 Arkansas, 5-2, Friday at the Jesse Owens West Tennis Center in Columbus, Ohio. With the win, the Buckeyes improved to 3-2 overall this season and extended their home win streak to 20 matches The home win streak dates back to the 2003 season and started with a 5-2 win over Purdue April 6. The Razorbacks fell to 2-2 overall.

In doubles action, Ohio State captured the crucial doubles point and swept Arkansas on all three courts. The junior duo of Scott Green (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) and Ross Wilson (Toledo, Ohio/Toledo St. Francis de Sales), ranked No. 1 in the ITA Division I doubles poll, finished first for the Buckeyes as they defeated No. 27 Imraan Ismail and Matt Roberts on the No. 1 court. Green and Wilson are undefeated this season with 12 wins overall and three in duals action.

Dennis Mertens (So., Braaschatt, Belgium/Koninkiljk) and Drew Eberly (Fr., Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) clinched the doubles point for the Buckeyes at the No. 3 spot. Mertens and Eberly topped Arkansas’ Michael Jung and Talley Parker, 8-5. Ohio State’s sophomore tandem of Joey Atas (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) and Chris Klingemann (Bradenton, Fla./Texas Tech Independent), ranked No. 28 in the nation, pulled off a 9-7 win over Rohan Gajjar and Adrians Zguns to close-out the doubles portion. The Buckeyes needed just three singles wins to clinch the match and were victorious at the Nos. 3-6 positions. Atas, ranked No. 67, finished first as he defeated Roberts, 6-2, 6-0, at the No. 3 slot. Mertens followed with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Ismail at No. 4.

The Razorbacks came back 3-2 in the match with wins on the Nos. 1 and 2 courts. Sophomore Buckeye Devin Mullings (Freeport, Bahamas/Ft. Lauderdale Prepatory), ranked No. 40 in the nation, fell in a heartbreak loss, 6-4, 7-6, to No. 77 Gajjar, and Klingemann suffered a three-set loss to No. 56 Zguns, 6-4, 3-6, 6-0.

Green sealed the match win for Ohio State as he handed Arkansas’ Simpson a 7-5, 6-2 loss. Wilson rounded out the 5-2 Buckeye victory with a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Parker at No. 6.

Ohio State hits the road Sunday as they face fourth-ranked Georgia for a 1 p.m. match in Athens, Ga. The Buckeyes are 9-6 against Southeastern Conference opponents under sixth-year head coach Ty Tucker.
