STANFORD, Calif. – No. 16 Ohio State dropped an 18-7 decision on the road this afternoon at No. 14 Stanford. The Buckeyes finish their two-game west coast road trip 1-1 after defeating Cal 16-15 in overtime Friday.

The loss drops Ohio State to 2-1 on the season while Stanford also moves to 2-1.

Cian Dabrowski led Ohio State with three goals in the loss while Rainey Hodgson added two goals and one assist. Despite their five combined goals, the Buckeyes were unable to generate enough offensive opportunities on this day as the Cardinal held a 28-15 shot advantage. The Ohio State defense also forced eight Stanford turnovers, to just five for the Buckeyes.

Stanford jumped out to a 6-0 lead 7 minutes into the game, but the Buckeyes regrouped and responded with three-straight goals: two by Dabrowski and one from Paulina Constant within a 5-minute span. That made the score 6-3 with 14 minutes left in the half. Rainey Hodgson would add a fourth Buckeye goal at the 13:58 mark, but not before Stanford added two more goals and eventually take a 9-4 lead into halftime.

The Cardinal then scored the first two goals of the second half before Molly Wood and Dabrowski scored back-to-back goals to make the score 13-6 with 20:31 left. Unfortunately for the Buckeyes, that would be as close as they would come the rest of the way.

Katie Frederick suffered her first loss of the season in goal, making four saves and allowing nine goals in 22 total minutes before giving way to Abigail Wise, who made two saves in 38 minutes.

Stanford held the edge in draw controls, 16-11, but it was the Buckeyes who held a 7-6 edge in draw in the second half.

Kelsey Murray and Anna Salemo led Stanford with four goals each.

Ohio State returns to action next Sunday when they welcome Duquesne to the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. Game time is 2 p.m.
