COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 15 Ohio State (14-9, 6-3) evened the season series with Lindenwood (9-8, 6-3) Friday with a 3-1 win at the Covelli Center. The Lions won earlier in the season on its homecourt, 3-2.
Jacob Pasteur led the way with 24 kills to up his career total to 944 and his season total to 318. He had a career-high 25 kills the last timeout vs. the Lions. Michael Wright was tops in assists with 41 while also recording a game-high seven digs. Pasteur had seven digs as well.
How it Happened
Set 1
The Buckeyes jumped to a 5-2 lead and kept the advantage until the Lions closed the gap to 10-8 with a 3-1 run. Lindenwood made it 11-10 before Ohio State got a kill by Jacob Pasteur and went up 13-10 on a Lions error. A 4-0 Lindenwood run gave the Lions the lead at 14-13. Ohio State answered with a 4-0 run to reclaim the lead at 17-14. The last two points coming on Pasteur kills. The Buckeyes were first to 20 on back-to-back Lindenwood errors to give Ohio State a 21-18 advantage. The Lions called timeout but Ohio State increased its lead to 23-19 on a Michael Wright kill, leading to Lindenwood’s second timeout of the set. Pasteur then closed out the set to win, 25-21. Pasteur led with eight kills while the Buckeyes hit. 303. The Lions hit .185.

Set 2
Ohio State took the lead early and kept a slim edge until the Lions tied it at 8-all with an ace. The Lions took their first lead, 10-9, on an OSU error. The Buckeyes came right back with a Cole Young kill and a Pasteur, Justin Howard and Wright block to make it 11-10 OSU. After a 5-1 run, ending with a Shane Wetzel kill, made it 14-11 Ohio State, the Lions called their first timeout of the set. The Buckeyes scored four of the next five points for an 18-12 lead. Lindenwood called its second timeout before Ohio State made it 20-15 on a Wetzel kill. The Buckeyes called timeout after a 3-0 Lions run cut the lead to 20-18. Ohio State scored three of the next four points for a 23-19 lead. A Pasteur kill and Lindenwood error gave the set to the Buckeyes, 25-21. Pasteur led both teams with 13 kills after two.

Set 3
The Buckeyes took the lead at 7-4 but the Lions cut it to 7-6 and then 9-8. Pasteur put the Buckeyes back up with a back row kill right down the middle of the Lions defense. Young made it 13-10 Ohio State with a kill of his own. Lindenwood came right back to take a 14-13 lead after a 5-1 run. Another Pasteur laser tied it at 14-all. Ohio State called timeout with the Lions in the lead, 16-14. Lindenwood increased its lead to 19-15 after a 3-1 run. The Buckeyes called timeout again but the Lions kept up the pressure to win the set, 25-20. Pasteur had 18 kills to lead both teams after three sets.
Set 4
Pasteur put Ohio State up 6-3 with a kill before an Ohio State block gave the Buckeyes a 10-6 lead. Howard put the Buckeyes up 14-9 with a kill down the right side. With Ohio State leading 15-9 after an Ohio State block, the Lions called timeout. The Buckeyes finished a 5-1 run to take an 18-10 lead after another Pasteur kill. Lindenwood called its second timeout but could not stop Ohio State’s momentum in a 25-13 Buckeyes win.
