No. 13 Ohio State Headed to No. 11 Penn State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 13 Ohio State men’s volleyball team concludes its non-conference slate this weekend against No. 11 Penn State. The Buckeyes and Nittany Lions will take the court in Rec Hall at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

LAST TIME OUT

Ohio State went 1-1 against Penn State when it opened the 2021 season at the Covelli Center last weekend. The Nittany Lions took Friday’s match in straight sets before the Buckeyes returned the favor on Saturday with a 3-0 win. Freshman Jacob Pasteur paced the team with 3.00 kills per set, including a career-high 11 kills on Friday night.

HISTORY WITH PENN STATE

The two programs have met 120 times since 1971 with Penn State holding a 74-45-1 lead in the all-time series. The Buckeyes are 12-31 when facing the Nittany Lions in State College. Ohio State took down Penn State in straight sets when it made the trip up north last season.

SCOUTING THE NITTANY LIONS

Penn State remains at No. 11 in the NVA/AVCA Poll after going 1-1 in Columbus last week. Cal Fisher, who is averaging 1.67 kills/set, leads the Nittany Lions’ offensive efforts.

NATIONALLY KNOWN

Luke Lentin ranks 11th nationally behind 8.20 assists/set while Samuel Clark’s 1.167 blocks/set checks in at No. 17. Pasteur’s 3.00 kill/set is good enough to rank 18th. As a team, Ohio State has held its opponents to a .163 hitting clip, which comes in sixth.

The Buckeyes return to Columbus to open MIVA play against Lewis on Feb. 5-6. Both matches will start at 1 p.m.
