KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The No. 13-ranked Ohio State men’s hockey scored two power-play goals in 48 seconds in the third period to come back from a goal down and defeat Western Michigan, 5-2, Saturday at Lawson Arena in Kalamazoo. The Broncos had taken a 2-1 lead at the 10:09 mark of the third, but Matt Beaudoin tied the game at 12:55, followed by JB Bittner’s gamewinner at 13:43. OSU ended the scoring with empty-net tallies from Bryce Anderson and John Dingle.

The win gives the Buckeyes a split of the two-game series with the Broncos. OSU improves to 5-3 on the year and 5-1 in Central Collegiate Hockey Association play. WMU drops to 2-4 overall and in league play.

In the first, Dan Knapp (Jr., Rochester, Mich.) got the Buckeyes on the board at 16:36, as his shot from the left faceoff circle trickled over the line. JB Bittner (Sr., Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Andrew Schembri (So., Mississauga, Ontario) picked up the assists on the goal. Each team had 10 shots on goal in the period.

The Broncos tied the game with a Brent Walton goal with 1:04 remaining in the second period. The Buckeyes stopped Western Michigan on three power play chances in the period, including a two-minute 5-on-3 advantage. The Buckeyes outshot the Broncos, 7-6, in the period.

The Broncos went ahead, 2-1, on a Pat Dwyer power-play goal at 10:09 ofthe third. Ohio State then scored two power-play goals in 48 seconds to tie the game and take a 3-2 lead. Beaudoin (So., Rock Forest, Quebec) scored, assisted by Kyle Hood (Fr., Osoyoos, British Columbia) and Domenic Maiani (Fr., Shelby Township, Mich.), at 12:55 with OSU on a 5-on-3 advantage. Bittner, assisted by Matt Waddell (So., Armstrong, British Columbia) and Maiani, then scored at 13:43 with OSU on a 5-on-4. OSU sealed the win with two empty-net goals. Bryce Anderson (So., Waterloo, Iowa) scored at 19:32, set up by Bittner and Lee Spector (Sr., Buffalo Grove, Ill.). John Dingle (Fr., Shaker Heights, Ohio) ended the scoring with .3 left on the clock, marking his first career goal. Johann Kroll (Fr., Plymouth, Minn.) had the assist on the tally. OSU was outshot, 12-9, in the period. OSU was 2-for-8 on the power play in the game and WMU went 1-for-9.

Buckeye goalie Dave Caruso (Jr., Roswell, Ga.) made 24 saves on 26 Bronco shots. Western goalie Daniel Bellissimo had 23 saves and allowed three goals.

Ohio State returns to action with a two-game series against Sacred Heart in Value City Arena. The teams will meet at 7:05 p.m. Friday and Saturday (Nov. 5-6).
