BUFFALO, N.Y. – The No. 13 Ohio State women’s volleyball team closed out its non-conference schedule with a 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-16) victory over host Buffalo to capture the Blue and White Classic tournament title Saturday evening in Alumni Arena. The Buckeyes improved to 12-0 and will enter the Big Ten season as the only remaining undefeated team in the conference.

Senior Kaitlyn Leary was named the tournament’s most valuable player and finished the evening with 17 kills and two solo blocks. Junior Erin Sekinger and freshman Taylor Sandbothe joined her on the all-tournament team.

Freshman Kylie Randall totaled 11 kills, while Sekinger had nine for the Buckeyes in the win. Senior Davionna DiSalvatore had a match-best 11 digs and classmate Julianne Mandolfo chipped in 10.

Ohio State handed Buffalo its first loss of the season as the Bulls fell to 12-1 overall. Amber Hatchett and Carissa McKenna finished with five kills each, while McKenna totaled five blocks for the Bulls. Libero Kelly Svoboda had nine digs on the night.

Locked at two apiece, a kill from Sekinger led to a 6-1 run for an 8-3 Buckeye lead in set one. Back-to-back Randall kills lifted the squad to a 12-5 advantage and a solo block from Andrea Kacsits set the score 15-9. A pair of Leary kills kicked off an 8-0 run to give Ohio State set point at 24-13 and another Leary kill sealed a 25-13 win.

The Buckeyes opened the second set on a roll, taking an early 11-3 lead. Kills from Sandbothe and Randall led to a 14-4 advantage and errors by the Bulls pushed the Buckeyes up 16-6. A kill from Sekinger and a Leary solo block triggered a 4-0 Ohio State run for a 21-9 lead and a kill from Taylor Sherwin gave the team a 25-14 set win.

A trio of Ohio State kills led to a quick 3-0 lead to start the third. Buffalo errors gave the Buckeyes a 10-4 advantage and back-to-back Leary kills lifted the squad to a 16-8 lead. A pair of two-point runs for Ohio State gave the team a 22-12 lead and a kill from Randall wrapped the match, 25-16.

Ohio State kicks off the Big Ten season hosting nationally-ranked rivals Michigan and Michigan State in St. John Arena. The Buckeyes and the Wolverines face off Sept. 27 at 8 p.m. ET on BTN. Ohio State closes out the weekend against the Spartans Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. ET.
