COLUMBUS, Ohio – Joe Doyle won two individual events and participated on a winning relay as No. 12 Ohio State claimed a 161-79 victory at Cleveland State Tuesday at Busbey Natatorium in Cleveland.

Doyle, a senior from Centerburg, Ohio (Centerburg) helped the Buckeyes open the meet with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:32.16. Doyle swam third on the relay and teamed with R.J. Lemyre (Sr., Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington), Felipe Travesso (So., Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Lawrences North) and Matt Voelker (Jr., Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington). Doyle also won the 50-yard freestyle (20.78) and the 100-yard butterfly (49.30).

Mark Neiman (Fr., Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill) led a 1-2-3 sweep of the 1,000-yard freestyle with a winning time of 9:27.05. Nate King (Sr., Youngstown, Ohio/Warren Harding) was second with a time of 9:31.23 and Ryan Stoneburg (So., Copley, Ohio/Akron Firestone) was third with an effort of 9:37.71.

King and Andrew Olson (Fr., Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) took the top two spots in the 200-yard individual medley. King won the event when he touched the wall in a time of 1:53.64, while Olsen was just behind him in 1:56.57.

Voelker won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 46.29 and Daniel Novak (Jr., Sao Paulo, Brazil/Foothill) added a win in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 51.97. Travesso was victorious in the 100-yard breaststroke, getting clocked at 58.52.

The Buckeyes’ 200-yard freestyle relay team of Voelker, Matthias Sigrist (So., Schaffhausen, Switzerland/Schaffhausen), Joel Elber (Fr, Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) and Lemyre closed the meet with a winning time of 1:24.72.

Bjorn Schantz won two of the Vikings’ three events. He won the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events with respective times of 1:39.75 and 4:34.42. Chris Dalman beat out Kellen Harkness (Sr., Pullayup, Wash./Cascade Christian) to win the 1-meter springboard with a score of 340.95. Harkness returned the favor by winning the 3-meter board with 365.48 points.

“We were happy to have the opportunity to swim Cleveland State and thrilled we were able to come away with a win,” Bill Wadley, men’s swimming coach, said. “I thought our kids performed very well, especially coming off a big meet last weekend against Purdue. Joe Doyle was our standout performer of the meet with two individual wins and another relay victory.”

Ohio State returns to action Dec. 1-3 when it plays host to the Ohio State Swimming and Diving Invitational at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
