No. 11 Buckeyes Post 4-3 Win over No. 19 Oklahoma State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 11 Ohio State women’s tennis team improved to 4-0 this season, as it topped No. 19 Oklahoma State, 4-3, Thursday evening in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center. After dropping the doubles point to the Cowgirls (2-2), Ohio State went ahead 3-1 with straight-set wins from Sydni Ratliff, Irina Cantos Siemers and Shelly Bereznyak. Kolie Allen clinched the Buckeye team victory with a three-set win on court four.

In Doubles

  • Oklahoma State took a 1-0 lead, clinching the doubles point with a tiebreak win on court one.
  • The Cowgirls won the first match off court, as Raquel Gonzalez and Sofia Rojas topped Kolie Allen and Kathleen Jones, 6-2, on court three.
  • On court two, the Buckeye duo of Akanksha Bhan and Irina Cantos Siemers won the final three games vs. Kristina Novak and Alana Wolfberg to take the match, 6-4.
  • On court one, Buckeyes Sydni Ratliff and Isabelle Boulais faced Ayumi Miyamoto and Lucia Peyre. The match was on serve until the Cowgirls broke for 4-3. The Buckeyes broke back and each team held to reach a tiebreak. In the breaker, Oklahoma State’s tandem won the final three points to clinch the doubles point.

In Singles

  • The Buckeyes won the first three singles matches in straight sets to take a 3-1 lead.
  • Sydni Ratliff tied the team score, as she won 6-2, 6-2 over Alana Wolfberg. Ratliff won the final three games in each set for the victory.
  • Irina Cantos Siemers followed with a court two win against Kristina Novak. The Buckeye took a 4-2 lead en route to a 6-2 first set victory. In the second, Cantos Siemers broke for a 5-4 advantage and held for the win and a 2-1 Ohio State team lead.
  • Shelly Bereznyak quickly followed, as she topped Ayumi Miyamoto, 6-3, 6-3, on court five. The Buckeye won the final three games in the second set to put the team a point away from the victory.
  • The Cowgirls rallied for a three-set win on court six for a 3-2 team score.
  • Kolie Allen notched the Buckeyes’ fourth point for the second match in a row. Facing Sofia Rojas on court four, Allen claimed the first set, 6-2, winning the final five games. In the second, the Cowgirl broke for a 4-2 lead and Allen was unable to get back on serve, with Rojas forcing a third set with a 6-3 set win. In the third set, the Cowgirl broke to go ahead 4-3. Allen took control from there, winning the final three games to seal the Buckeye victory.
  • Oklahoma State claimed the final match on court in three sets for the 4-3 team final.
  • Allen is a team-best 4-0 in singles this year, while Bereznyak and Cantos are 3-0 and Ratliff is 2-1.
