STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Despite wins by Nathan Tomasello, Micah Jordan, Bo Jordan and Kyle Snyder, top-ranked Penn State got key bonus-point victories at 149, 157 and 197 pounds to earn a 24-14 victory over No. 9 Ohio State in front of a sold-out crowd at the Bryce Jordan Center.

The Buckeyes saw their four-match winning streak to an end despite some noteworthy performances, including a last second win for Tomasello and another dominant performance from Snyder.

Tomasello (16-0) got the dual off to a big start for Ohio State, earning his 34th consecutive win in dramatic fashion, knocking off fourth-ranked Nico Megaludis (21-2), 3-1, on a takedown with just 15 seconds remaining in the third period. It was also Tomasello’s 18th win over a ranked opponent during his winning streak, which is now the third longest in school history.

Riding the momentum of Tomasello’s big opening win, Johnni DiJulius got out to a 4-0 lead over fifth-ranked Jordan Conaway on a takedown and two-point near fall, but Conaway battled back with an escape, takedown and another escape to start the second to tie the score at 4-4. From there, he scored three second period points and tacked on the riding time bonus point for a 8-4 decision, knotting the team score at 3-3.

M. Jordan was next at 141 pounds, and he continued his impressive 2015-16 season by winning his 18th match, this one a 6-3 decision over No. 14 Jimmy Guilbon that was sealed up with a takedown with just 26 seconds remaining in the third period. Jordan added another takedown as the third period buzzer sounded.

A pin by top-ranked and unbeaten Zain Retherford in 2:31 at 149 lbs. gave PSU a 9-6 lead and the Nittany Lions extended that to 13-6 with No. 1 Jason Nolf’s 19-6 major decision over Jake Ryan at 157 pounds.

After intermission, B. Jordan got the Buckeyes back in the win column with a tight 3-2 decision over Geno Morelli at 165 pounds. The match wasn’t decided until a Jordan takedown with 35 seconds remaining in the third period. Prior to that, both wrestlers had scored on escapes. Jordan remains unbeaten this year at 13-0.

Myles Martin battled top-ranked Bo Nickal until deep into the third period, leading 5-4 with just over a minute remaining before Nickal ended the bout with a flurry of points, including a takedown and four-point near fall for the 11-5 decision. The win gave the Nittany Lions a 16-9 edge in the dual. Top-ranked Morgan McIntosh then extended the lead to 19-9 with a 4-0 shutout of Kenny Courts at 184. From there, a 24-9 tech fall for Morgan McIntosh over Josh Fox made the team score 24-9.

Snyder was his usual dominant self, scoring on nine first-period takedowns and then finishing off his 24-9 tech fall over Jan Johnson with three more in the second period. In just two matches this year, he has outscored his opponents 44-18.

Ohio State is back in action next Friday, Feb. 12, when it hosts Wisconsin at St. John Arena beginning at 7 p.m.
