Craft Moving Up Big Ten Steals chart
Aaron Craft is one assist shy of cracking the Top 10 in all-time steals in Big Ten history. After three steals at Michigan last Tuesday, Craft has 214 for his career, already the Ohio State record. Melvin Newbern (1987-90) of Minnesota and Jitim Young (2001-04) of Northwestern are currently in the No. 10 spot in Big Ten history with 215 thefts. Kendall Gill (1987-90) of Illinois and Titus Ivory (1998-2001) of Penn State are tied for the No. 8 spot with 218.

Craft Makes list of 12 Cousy finalists
Aaron Craft, a junior guard for the Buckeyes, is among the candidates for the 2013 Bob Cousy Award, presented annually to the top point guard in the country. The list of more than 80 nominations was cut to 12 Feb. 7. A final five will be announced March 11. The winner will be announced at the 2013 Final Four weekend. Buckeyes 8-10 vs. AP No. 1 all-Time
Thad Matta has faced the nation’s top team six times previously as a head coach, twice while at Xavier and four times as Ohio State’s head coach. He is 3-3 in this games, including a 2-2 record at Ohio State. At Xavier, Matta defeated No. 1 St. Joseph’s in the Atlantic 10 Tournament March 11, 2004 (87-67) and fell at No. 1 Alabama Jan. 4, 2003 (65-58). Overall, Ohio State leads the Big Ten with eight wins in 18 attempts vs. the Associated Press top-rated team. The Buckeyes have faced No. 1 ranked Indiana teams six times and have posted a 2-4 record in those games. Ohio State has been at home the last three times it has faced a No. 1 team. The Buckeyes are 2-1 in those games.

Thomas working on 500-club inclusion
Thirty Ohio State players have reached the 500-point mark in a single season at least once. Deshaun Thomas is on track to become the 14th player to do so multiple times. Thomas scored 619 points as a sophomore, the 17th best single-season scoring effort in Ohio State history. Thomas leads the Big Ten in scoring with 19.9 points per game for a total of 437 points this season. William Buford (2009-12), one of three Buckeyes to score 500+ three times, and Jared Sullinger (2011-12), who did it twice, were the last to record multiple 500-point seasons at Ohio State.

Craft makes Academic District Team
Aaron Craft, a junior on the Ohio State men’s basketball team, was named to the 2013 Capitol One Academic All-District (5) First Team Jan. 31. Craft, a 2012 Capitol One First Team Academic All-American, advances to the 2013 national ballot after making the district squad this year. A nutrition (pre-med) major, Craft carries a 3.92 grade-point average. The defending 2012 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, Craft set the Ohio State career steals record this year. He enters the IU game with 214 career thefts.

Thomas makes Robertson List
The United States Basketball Writers Association announced the midseason watch list for the Oscar Robertson National Player of the Year Jan. 31. Ohio State junior Deshaun Thomas made the 12-member midseason list. after leading the Big Ten in scoring with 19.9 points per game. He has reached 20 or more points in six conference games this season, including a 25-point effort most recently vs. Wisconsin Jan. 29.

The Indiana Series
Ohio State has faced a No. 1 Indiana team six times and is 2-4 in those games, with wins in the last two. Unranked Ohio State defeated the No. 1 Hoosiers 70-67 at St. John Arena in Columbus Jan. 8, 1983 and then again as an unranked team vs. top-ranked Indiana in overtime 81-77 Feb. 23, 1993, again at St. John Arena. Indiana has been ranked just twice in games played at Value City Arena. The unranked Buckeyes defeated No. 15 Indiana 81-69 Jan. 11, 2003. Last year, in a battle of Top 10 teams, No. 5 Ohio State knocked off No. 7 Indiana 80-63 Jan. 15, 2012. The Buckeyes have been ranked twice vs. IU in games play at VCA. The game last season and in the Feb. 27, 2011 game in which the No. 2 Buckeyes won 82-61 vs. unranked Indiana. Overall, Ohio State is 75-100 vs. the Hoosiers. The Buckeyes are 51-34 in Columbus. The Buckeyes have won seven of the last eight overall meetings, the last four and six of the last seven in Columbus. Ranked Ohio State teams are 19-12 vs. the Hoosiers while Indiana is 32-17 when ranked in the Ohio State series. When both teams carry an Associated Press ranking into the matchup, Ohio State is 6-8. Deshaun Thomas, a native of Fort Wayne, Ind., leads Ohio State with an average of 11.5 points per game in four career meetings. He connected on 56 percent of his shots (15-27) and is 14 of 17 from the line (.824). Lenzelle Smith Jr. adds 10.5 points a game while shooting 14-20 (.700) from the field. He is 6-8 from 3-point range (.750) and 8-10 from the line (.800).       

A Look at the Hoosiers
No. 1 Indiana lost on the road at Illinois (74-72) Thursday before traveling to No. 10 Ohio State. The Hoosiers are 20-3 overall and 8-2 in Big  Ten play. Four IU players average 11 or more points a game with sophomore Cody Zeller leading the way with 16.2 ppg. Victor Oladipo follows with 13.8 ppg. while Christian Wafford (12.9 ppg.) and Jordan Hulls (11.1 ppg.) round out IU`s top scorers. Zeller leads the team in rebounding with 8.3 boards a contest. Indiana`s other two losses this year have been to Butler in overtime (88-86) in a neutral-site game and at home to Wisconsin, 64-59.

Thomas Leads B1G
Junior Deshaun Thomas has reached 20 or more points in six of 10 Big Ten Conference regular-season games. He reached 20 or more in the first five games of the league season, a first since Jim Jackson had a five-game 20-point scoring streaks during both his junior (1992) and sophomore (1991) seasons. The last Ohio State player with a string of 20+ scoring games in six or more league games was Dennis Hopson, who amazingly reached at least 20 points in 17-consecutive Big Ten games to end the 1987 season. Including a non-conference game vs. Florida International and two NCAA tournament games. Hopson ending his career on a streak of 20-consecutive games with at least 20 points scored. The last Ohio State player to score more than 20 points in five-consecutive games was Michael Redd, who posted a streak of nine-consecutive 20+ scoring games during his freshman season in 1997-98. Thomas has scored 20 or more in 11 games this season and in 23 career games (3-2010-11, 9-2011-12, 11-2012-13). He has reached 20 points in 12 games vs. league foes, including twice in Big Ten tournament play. He scored 25 points in the most recent win vs. Wisconsin to lead all scorers.

Ohio State In the Big Ten
The Buckeyes are No. 2 in scoring defense (58.1 ppg.) and field goal percentage defense (.383). Ohio State is No. 3 in 3-point field goal percentage (.377), blocked shots (4.6) and scoring margin (13.8 ppg.) among Big Ten teams. Individually, Deshaun Thomas leads the conference in scoring with 19.9 points per game and is No. 4 in made 3s per game with 2.4. Aaron Craft (4.5) rates No. 2 in assists per game and in steals (2.0). Shannon Scott is No. 2 in assist to turnover ratio (+3.4).

101 Years in Big Ten
Ohio State celebrates 101 years as a member of the Big Ten Conference in men’s basketball in 2013. The Buckeyes finished in the No. 6 spot in the 1913 conference standings, the first season of league play. Over the 100 previous seasons, Ohio State has earned 20 Big Ten regular-season titles with 24 NCAA tournament appearances, one national championship (1960) and 10 trips to the Final Four. Eight former coaches and players are members of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame while nearly 50 student-athletes have been drafted by National Basketball Association teams, including 23 in the first round.

Vote Matta
Thad Matta is one of 48 Division I coaches participating in the third annual Coaches’ Charity Challenge, a fan-vote challenge, with the total contributions exceeding $300,000. Matta won the challenge a year ago, earning $100,000 for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio. He is once again supporting RMHC. Fans can vote once a day for the next eight weeks:
