Nine Individuals Ranked in Preseason Poll, Buckeyes 10th as Team

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State wrestling team is ranked No. 10 nationally by InterMat in its most recent preseason poll. The Buckeyes are among five Big Ten programs rated among the Top 10.

Individually, nine Buckeyes rank among the Top 25 in their respective weight classes. Junior Sammy Sasso, who finished second in the 2021 NCAA Championships at 149, is ranked preseason No. 2.

Senior Ethan Smith (174) and senior Tate Orndorff (HWT) both come in at No. 7 with sophomore Carson Kharchla (165) at No. 10 to round out the Buckeyes in the Top 10 in their weight classes.

Senior Kaleb Romero (No. 11 at 184), senior Malik Heinselman (No. 16/125), junior Rocky Jordan (No. 17/197), sophomore Dylan D’Emilio (No. 20/141) and sophomore Anthony Echemendia (No. 24/133) round out the Buckeyes in the preseason individual rankings.

Ohio State finished ninth at the 2021 NCAA Championships. The Buckeyes had three earn All-America honors a year ago.
