COLUMBUS – Proving extraordinary experiences to student-athletes isn’t something that’s confined to the playing field at Ohio State. This summer, nine members of the men’s lacrosse team will stay in Columbus and participate in internships as part of the Huntington Bucks Go Pro 1.0 and 2.0 classes. Several others players have internship/job shadowing opportunities set up in their respective hometowns.

The 1.0 class is comprised of a department-best five students – Anthony Ameo (camps), Omari DeBerry (Buckeye Leadership Fellows), Brandon Fisher (Sports Administration), Jack Rennillo (Student Life) and Ryan Terefenko (coaching). The 2.0 class – which consists of internships in Columbus and outside of the Ohio State’s Department of Athletics – includes Evan Riss (Tide Creek Financial), Lukas Buckley (Rockbridge Capital), Justin Inacio (Nationwide Children’s Hospital) and Nick Musci (One Brick Capital).

The Huntington Bucks Go Pro Internship programs, which are the most tenured program in the Eugene D. Smith Leadership Institute, runs eight weeks over the summer and allows student-athletes to gain important hands-on professional experience. The program incorporates an educational curriculum focused on areas such as networking, leadership and personal finance. Furthermore, the program expands student-athletes’ scope by participating in site visits with local Columbus employers.

The seventh-year internship program also strives to:
1. Provide the student-athletes with meaningful work experience in a professional setting
2. Help enhance student-athletes’ resumes
3. Teach student-athletes how to develop a network of colleagues
4. Expand our student-athletes’ reference beyond their professors and coaches
5. Help our student-athletes be better prepared for life after college and represent Ohio State with class in their professional endeavors.
