Nichols Takes Fifth Overall At Big Ten Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s cross country program placed fifth in a field of 14 at the 2019 Big Ten cross country championships, hosted on Sunday morning at the OSU Golf Course in Upper Arlington. This is the first time the women have placed in the top five in the conference since 2016 when they took fifth with 130 points scored.

Michigan State won the team title with 56 points beating Wisconsin (62 points) and Michigan (88 points). Penn State (138 points) and Illinois, tying the Buckeyes (144 points) rounded out the top five.

Leading the Buckeyes was senior Abby Nichols. Nichols raced to the finish line with a career best time of 20:24.3 to take fifth overall in a field of 126 runners. As a result of her finish, Nichols also earned first-team All-Big Ten honors. Fifth-year senior Julia Rizk came through the threshold to take 17th with a career best time of 20:45.2. Rounding out the scoring efforts for the women were senior Lainey Studebaker (20:56.5), freshman Allie Gaugenti (21:20.6) and junior Kalee Soehnlen (21:33.5).
