COLUMBUS, Ohio Nichelle Prince, a freshman on the Ohio State women’s soccer team, has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. The honor is the first Big Ten weekly honor for a Buckeye this season and the first for the Ajax, Ontario, native.

Prince assisted on the Buckeyes’ opening goal at Northeastern Sunday and then went on to tally three goals for Ohio State’s 11th hat trick in program history and the first since Lauren Granberg scored three times three in a 4-0 win at Nebraska Oct. 14 of last season. The seven-point match against the Huskies marked the highest point total of any Big Ten player this season and fell one shy of the program record held by Lisa Suttmiller.

Through three weeks of play, Prince is tied for fifth in the Big Ten with four assists and tied for sixth with four goals.

Ohio State faces Central Michigan and St. John’s this weekend in Bloomington, Ind.
