COLUMBUS, Ohio — Senior Jesse King, junior Robby Haus and redshirt sophomore Tom Carey of the Ohio State men’s lacrosse team have been named USILA All-Americans, the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association announced Thursday. King and Haus are third team selections, while Carey is honorable mention choice.
“We are proud to see these three men recognized,” Nick Myers, Ohio State head coach, said. “These individual awards speak not just to their talent but are a product of the success of their teammates as well.”
King, who was also named to the third team in 2014 and was an honorable mention selection in 2013, is just the second Buckeye to be named to the USILA first, second or third team twice and the second to earn USILA accolades three times. The Buckeyes have had at least one All-America selection each year since 2008, totaling 18 in that span (two second team, five third team, 11 honorable mention) and have 25 total honorees since 2000. All-time, Buckeyes have claimed 10 USILA first, second or third team honors and 41 honorable mention selections.
“Jesse was as dynamic a player as we have ever coached and he will be missed,” Myers said. “He has certainly left his stamp on Buckeye lacrosse and we wish him all the best with his professional career.”
An attackman from Victoria, British Columbia, King led the Buckeyes with a career-high 42 goals, 35 assists and 77 points, the most points for a Buckeye in a single year since 1979 and the fourth-most in program history. A unanimous First Team All-Big Ten selection and Big Ten All-Tournament Team choice, King had multiple points in all but one game, including three five-goals days and a career-high six assists and nine points in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals at Denver. He is in the Top 25 in the NCAA and third in the B1G in assists (1.84) and points (4.05) per game and second among league players with 2.21 goals an outing. King ended his career fourth in Ohio State history with 208 points and 119 goals, ranking fifth with 89 assists, with a point in all but one of his last 55 games.
Haus, a defenseman from Lutherville, Md., was an Honorable Mention All-Big Ten selection this season and earned a spot on the Big Ten All-Tournament Team. He started all 19 games in 2015 and had 31 groundballs and 13 caused turnovers as the Buckeyes were second in the Big Ten in team defense, allowing 9.16 goals a game, and held nine opponents to eight or fewer goals. A three-time Ohio State Scholar-Athlete, Haus has started all 50 games since joining the Buckeyes as a freshman in 2013 and has 100 groundballs and 38 caused turnovers.
Goalie Carey, from New Canaan, Conn., started all 19 games for the Buckeyes in 2015 in his first year playing for the squad. An Honorable Mention All-Big Ten choice, he had 11 games with 10 or more saves, including a career-high 15 in an NCAA Tournament win at Duke. A two-time Big Ten Specialist of the Week, he was in the Top 10 nationally in goals-against average for much of the season and ended the year with a 9.08 goals-against average.
The Buckeyes were 12-7 overall in 2015 and earned an at-large spot in the NCAA Tournament, marking the program’s fifth appearance in the championship. The squad advanced to the quarterfinals for the third time after a 16-11 win at Duke in the first round. Ohio State was 3-2 in Big Ten play and reached the championship game of the inaugural Big Ten Tournament after a win over Maryland (9-6) in College Park, Md.
