COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s basketball officially opened practice with a two and a half hour workout Wednesday morning. The team began preparation for the season that opens on Friday, Nov. 10 vs. Stanford at St. John Arena.

Buckeyes Complete Schedule with addition of Quinnipiac

Ohio State has completed its 2017-18 schedule with the addition of a home game with Quinnipiac on Nov. 17. The game will tip-off at 7 p.m. at the Schottenstein Center.

Quinnipiac advanced to the Sweet 16 last season and won the MEAC with a 29-7 overall record. The Bobcats had 12 different players start at least two games last season and return 10 of those players this year.

The game on Nov. 17 completes a busy first two weeks of the season for the Buckeyes. They open against Stanford on Nov. 10 and then play Louisville on Nov. 12. Three days later they play Idaho on Nov. 15 before hosting Quinnipiac on Nov. 17 and Washington on Nov. 19. The good news is that all five of those games will be played in Columbus.

The final three games of the opening two-week run will be played in Las Vegas as part of the Play4Kay Shootout. Ohio State, which opens the tournament with a game against Memphis, will play three games from Nov. 23-25.

In total, the Buckeyes will play eight games in a 16-day span to begin the season.

Cronin and Jayaramen Added as Walk-ons

Karlie Cronin and Savitha Jayaraman (suh-VEE-tha JAY-uh-rah-man) have been added to the roster as walk-ons for this season.

Cronin (Oakton, Va./Oakton) began her collegiate basketball career at SMU where she played in two games at the start of the 2015-16 season before leaving the program. She enrolled at Ohio State at the start of 2016 spring semester and joined the women’s lacrosse team. Cronin appeared in seven games last spring and made two starts. The 5-8 guard will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Jayaraman is a second-year business student. She is a 6-2 forward from Powell, Ohio who attended Olentangy Liberty High School. She was a two-time All-OCC honorable mention honoree and was named to the District II All-Star team in 2016. Jayaraman has four years of eligibility.

McGuff Announces Two Additions to the Staff

Head coach Kevin McGuff announced the addition of Ericka Haney as the Special Assistant to the Head Coach and Reid Guzdanski as the Office Assistant.

Haney played for McGuff at Notre Dame (1998-2002) and was a member of the program’s first national championship team. She was drafted by the WNBA’s Detroit Shock in 2002 and played overseas in Sweden later than fall. She returned to the states and joined the staff at Chicago State from 2003-06, was the Director of Operations at Louisiana Tech for the 2006-07 season and then was the recruiting coordinator at Florida Gulf Coast from 2007-09.

Haney left the collegiate ranks and served as the Director of Girls Basketball at four different Florida High Schools over the last eight years. She brings a wealth of basketball knowledge and experience to the staff.

Guzdanski returns to the program after serving as the video coordinator for the women’s basketball program at New Mexico last season. He was a manager for the women’s team at Ohio State while completing his undergraduate degree in 2014. He then enrolled in the sport management graduate program at Ohio State and served as a graduate assistant and video coordinator for the team from 2014-16.
