New Era of Ohio State Men’s Volleyball Begins Saturday

COLUMBUS, Ohio – An assemblage of ‘new’ items for the Ohio State men’s volleyball program will officially commence Saturday, Jan. 6 when the Covelli Center plays host to North Greenville University at 7 p.m. ET. The new facility makes its men’s volleyball debut to start the new season in a new year representing a new decade; all under the watchful eye of new head coach Kevin Burch.

Remaining the same, however, are 🆓 admission, 🆓 parking and 🆓 fun for all Ohio State home matches.

HISTORY WITH THE CRUSADERS
Saturday represents just the second all-time meeting between the Buckeyes and North Greenville. The first came in 2018 when Ohio State swept the Crusaders by a final tally of 25-13, 25-18, 25-21.

FINAL PRESEASON PREP SENT BUCKEYES TO TORONTO
Ohio State was selected to compete in the 2019 Can Am Volleyball Holiday Showcase (Dec. 28-31) in Toronto, Canada. The event pitted four elite men’s volleyball programs from both the United States and Canada. A dozen world-class matches split evenly, 6-6, between the two neighboring countries, including a 2-1 mark for the Buckeyes.

Martin Lallemand picked up ‘player of the match’ recognition for Ohio State’s win over McMaster University. He drilled 13 kills while attacking .407 for the match. Ethan Talley earned the same accolades after leading the Buckeyes to a five-set victory over Ryerson University with 10 kills at a .400 attacking clip to go along with a solid blocking effort.

FIRST FIVE AT THE COVELLI CENTER
Ohio State men’s volleyball will waste no time in christening its new competition home, the Covelli Center, jumpstarting the 2020 season with five consecutive home matches spanning Jan. 4-17. The complete ’20 regular season campaign comprises of 28 total matches, including 15 contested at the Buckeyes’ new address, 2640 Fred Taylor Drive.

BEST OF THE DECADE
‘Off the Block,’ and website solely dedicated to the coverage of collegiate men’s volleyball, assembled a national voting committee to select several ‘Best of the 2010s’ awards. With three national championships coming to Columbus since 2011, the Buckeyes were well represented in the decade accolades. In fact, Ohio State was named the National Program of the Decade and Pete Hanson earned National Coach of the Decade honors. Nicolas Szerszen finished as runner-up for National Player of the Decade recognition.
