COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women’s soccer has earned its 15th NCAA Tournament selection and will open the 2021 tournament on Friday night in Blacksburg, Va., against the Hokies of Virginia Tech. First touch is set for 6 p.m. and the match will be streamed on ACC Network Extra.

The winner of the match will play the winner of the match between No. 7 Arkansas and Northwestern St.

  • This is Ohio State’s 15th NCAA Tournament appearance and the sixth appearance in the last seven years.
  • The Buckeyes are 13-13-2 in the NCAA Tournament and have reached the College Cup once in 2010.
  • This will be the second meeting in the NCAA Tournament between Ohio State and Virginia Tech. The teams met in the second round in 2015 in State College, Pa., and the Buckeyes came away with a 1-0 victory.
  • All-time, this will be the fifth overall meeting between the two teams with the most recent coming in 2016. The Buckeyes have won three of the previous four meetings.
  • The Buckeyes finished seventh in the Big Ten with a 9-8-2 overall record and a 4-4-2 mark in conference play. They played at Purdue in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament on Oct. 31, and despite a great nine-save effort by keeper Bailey Kolinski, the Buckeyes fell 1-0.
  • Virginia Tech was 11-5-2 this season and finished in sole possession of eighth place in the ACC, one point shy of making the ACC Tournament. Emily Gray, who is a second team All-ACC honoree, leads the team with 29 points on 11 goals and seven assists.
  • Freshman forward Kailyn Dudukovich is second on the team with 17 points and her team-leading seven goals are the most by a freshman in the Big Ten. She is a third team All-Big Ten honoree.
  • Senior Kayla Fischer leads the team with 18 points on the season and she joined Dudukovich on the All-Big Ten third team. Fischer has six goals and a team-high tying six assists. Her 234 career shot attempts are sixth-most in program history.
  • Defender Sydney Jones earned All-Freshman Team honors. The Cincinnati, Ohio native has played every minute this season.
  • Captain Izzy Rodriguez was named to the MAC Hermann Award Watch list at the start of the season and was also named a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award. She has a pair of goals and an assist on the year.
  • Goalkeeper Bailey Kolinski earned All-Big Ten Tournament team honors after her nine-save effort vs. Purdue.
