Both enter first season in leadership position

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior Justin Myers and junior Brandon Wynn have been named co-captains of the 2010 Ohio State men’s gymnastics team Miles Avery, 13th-year head coach, announced Wednesday.

After graduating a five-man senior class last spring, Avery knew replacing the leadership qualities the class of 2009 brought to the gym would be key in the development of the 2010 team. With Myers, a walk-on from Hinckley, Ohio, and Wynn, a 2009-10 U.S. Senior National team member, Avery feels confident all current team members will be well-represented.

“Thinking about the diversity of this team, Justin and Brandon represent the wide spectrum of personalities that make up this squad,” Avery said. “I believe these two guys will do a good job motivating this team.”

Myers, a three-year letterwinner, has increased his role on the squad each season through consistent hard work in the gym. Winner of the team’s most improved honor in 2007 and ’08, Myers has been a mainstay in the Buckeyes’ floor, vault, parallel bars and high bar squads.

“It is nice to know you are respected by your teammates and they feel confident you will lead them in the right direction throughout the season,” Myers said.

Coming off a tremendous summer on the national circuit, Wynn returns for his junior campaign after earning All-America honors in the all-around last April. The Voorhees, N.J., native again will be a key leader on the competition floor in the all-around, vying for league and national titles.

“It’s an honor to follow in the footsteps of all the other great captains of the Ohio State gymnastics team,” Wynn said.
