Columbus, Ohio-Ohio State’s Devin Mullings (Jr., Freeport, Bahamas/Ft. Lauderdale Prepatory), the No. 1 seed at the ITA Midwest Regionals in Ann Arbor, Mich, in singles and three OSU doubles teams advanced to the quarterfinals Sunday.

Mullings improved to 4-1 this fall with a 6-1, 7-6(4) victory over Notre Dame’s Brett Helgeson. Mullings will play Jeremy Sonkin of Wisconsin Monday with a spot in the semifinals up for grabs.

Bryan Koniecko (Fr., Long Island, N.Y./Syosset), the No. 13 seed, lost in the round of 16 to Matko Maravic of Michigan 6-3, 6-4. Koniecko is 3-2 on the year.

Ross Wilson (Sr. Toledo, Ohio/Toledo St. Francis de Sales) was the second Buckeye to lose on the day. Wilson was defeated by Matt Baccarani of Ball State 7-5, 6-1. Wilson record fell to 3-2 on the season.

Scott Green (Sr., North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) was the final Ohio State player to be eliminated in the singles event. He was downed by Nic Edleson of Minnesota 6-7(2), 6-3, 6-0. His season record fell to 3-2.

In doubles action, three of the four Buckeye teams advanced to the quarterfinals. Chris Klingemann (Jr., Bradenton, Fla./Texas Tech Independent) and Mullings won both of their matches Sunday. They beat Andy Bartish and James Low of Butler 9-8(5) in the second round. Then Klingemann and Mullings defeated David Bubenicek and Peter Antons of Indiana 8-2 to advance to the quarterfinals. Klingemann and Mullings are now 3-0 on the year and will face Mark Spicijaric and Monte Tucker of Illinois in the next round.

Dominic Ozanne (So., Cleveland, Ohio/St. Ignatius) and Green also advanced to the quarterfinals. They beat Wil Lofgren and Matt Metully of Bradley 8-6 in the second round before disposing of Ruben Gonzalez and Ryan Rowe of Illinois, 8-6. Ozanne and Green are now 3-0 and will face Demar Johnson and Slavko Radman of Louisville.

The final Buckeye pair to advance on the day was Wilson and Koniecko. They beat Brett Helgeson and Sheeva Parbhu of Notre Dame 8-3 in the second round, then Jarrod and Tony Epkey of Ball State, 8-3. Wilson and Koniecko improved their season record to 3-0 and will face Pramod Dabir and Brandon Davis of Illinois with a spot in the semifinal on the line.

The only Ohio State doubles team to lose on the day was Dennis Mertens (Sr., Braaschaat, Belgium/Koninkiljk) and Drew Eberly (So.,Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest). They lost to Eric Hodgman and Patrick Rose of Purdue 9-7. Mertens and Eberly are 1-1 this season.
