COLUMBUS, Ohio The unbeaten and 11th-ranked Ohio State men’s swimming team takes to the road for a second consecutive meet Tuesday as it travels to Cleveland for a 5 p.m. competition against Cleveland State at the Robert F. Busbey Natatorium. The meet will be a co-ed dual meet with the Ohio State and Cleveland State women’s teams.

The Buckeyes are coming off a fourth consecutive dual meet win Friday to open the season, 172.5-86.5, over Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. The Buckeyes won 11 of the 14 races and finished with nine individual race winners.

41 Individual Wins So Far
The Buckeye swimmers have amassed 41 individual wins in four dual meets so far this season. A total of 17 different Buckeyes have won races this year. A quartet of swimmers lead the way with four wins apiece. They are:

  • Senior Felipe Travesso is unbeaten at 4-0 in the 100 breaststroke;
  • Junior Joel Elber has two wins apiece in the 50 and 100 freestyles;
  • Junior Mark Neiman has two wins in the 500 free and two in the 1000 free; and   
  • Sophomore Justin Farra has two wins in the 200 backstroke and one win apiece in the 200 individual medley and 400 individual medley.

Getting to 4-0…
Here’s what the Buckeyes have done this season: they have defeated Kenyon (168-71), Cincinnati (142-112), Miami (167-122) and Notre Dame (172.5-86.5).
No Diving Allowed
The diving team will not compete in Cleveland. The divers competed in a three-day event last weekend at the site of the 2009 men’s and women’s NCAA Swimming and Diving championships: Texas A&M’s Student Recreation Natatorium. Junior Burkley Showe led the team’s efforts with two runner-up finishes (on the one-meter springboard with 350.15 points and also on the three-meter board wlith 417.60 points). Sophomore Ryan Jefferson was fifth with 303.90 points and 10th with 323.25 points on the two boards, respectively. Defending NCAA platform champion Sean Moore, a sophomore, was fourth on the platform event with 349.10 points.

Cleveland State is 7-2
Not much stood in the way of the Cleveland State men’s swimming and diving team in the past two weeks as it went 4-1 and improved to 7-2 on the season. On Nov. 11, the Vikings swept Gannon (140-86), John Carroll (149-72) and Notre Dame College (149-41) at the City College Championships. On Nov. 15, the Viking men split a dual with Notre Dame and Miami (OH). CSU defeated Miami 135-102 and fell to Notre Dame 132-109.

The Coaches
The Buckeyes are led by 20th year head coach Bill Wadley, who is 171-31 at Ohio State and 195-41 in 23 years as a head coach. Wadley’s teams have finished third and fourth at the past two Big Ten championships, respectively. Wally Morton is 248-135-1 in his 28th season as Viking men’s coach and 10-14 in his second season as the school’s women’s coach. Morton has led the Viking men’s team to 12 conference championships and 24 winning seasons.
