COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State men’s golf head coach Jay Moseley announced the signing of four student-athletes in the class of 2022. Topher Reed, Tyler Sabo, Neal Shipley and Joe Wilson IV will all join the program next fall.
Reed, Sabo and Wilson IV are among the top high school players in the state of Ohio. Wilson IV (West Chester, Ohio) and Reed (Fairview Park, Ohio) shared medalist honors as the state tournament last month at the Scarlet Course while Tyler Sabo (Ashland, Ohio) finished in a tie for fourth.
“Each of these three young men are proven winners, across the state and region and even nationally,” said Moseley. “They have consistently proven they are the three best players in Ohio so we are thrilled they all chose to stay in the Buckeye state and represent the Scarlet and Gray. The Ohio State brand is powerful to them, and they understand the sacrifice it takes to be an elite athlete at Ohio State.
Shipley played the last two and a half seasons at James Madison. He played in 16 events for the Dukes and had a 73.21 scoring average. He also led Pittsburgh Central Catholic to its first two state championships in program history.
“Coach Smith and I value the family support and the intangibles each one of them possess,” Moseley continued. “This class is extremely special and we are excited for the journey to begin for these three young men next fall.”

Moseley on Reed: “Topher Reed is a fierce competitor who has been winning and competing in junior tournaments for over a decade. His leadership made a massive impact on his high school golf team which culminated in a team victory a few weeks ago in his final high school event. Topher will make great contributions to our program on and off the course.”
Moseley on Sabo: “Tyler Sabo is a tremendous athlete who has improved tremendously during high school. Golf was not his primary sport until 4-5 years ago but since then, he has steadily closed the gap on the best juniors in the country. His character and work ethic are aligned with the values of our team.”

Moseley on Shipley: “We are really excited to add Neal into this exceptional recruiting class. Neal’s experience with college and amateur golf will serve him well as a graduate transfer already knowing a lot of the landscape of college golf. Our graduate programs at Ohio State have been incredibly popular due to their respective competitiveness and prominent ranking. We are thrilled that Neal will be able to make significant contributions to our team while also getting a first-class graduate experience.”
