The CJD Memorial Fall Classic, featuring three lacrosse games in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium, is at 1 p.m. Saturday in Columbus. Classic host Ohio State welcomes Ohio Wesleyan and Canisius to JOMS for the event, with money raised going to the CJD Memorial Fund to help support Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
The family-friendly event will have face-painting and coloring stations for children with Ohio State student-athletes. A suggested $5 donation will be accepted at the door for the CJD Memorial Fund, which was set up to honor the memory of Colleen Dobbins, the daughter of Ohio State assistant coach Dave Dobbins and his wife, Erin, who passed away suddenly in March.
Play will begin at 1 p.m. with the Buckeyes taking on Canisius. Ohio Wesleyan and the Golden Griffins will face off immediately after (approximately 2:15 p.m.). The final game features the Buckeyes and Bishops, with an expected start time of 3:30 p.m.
The event wraps up the Buckeyes’ fall schedule, which included a game vs. the team’s alumni and a scrimmage with North Carolina last weekend in Baltimore. The team, under head coach Nick Myers, returns nearly every starter from the 2011 campaign, including all three starters at close defense and goalie Greg Dutton.
The Buckeyes have not faced Ohio Wesleyan, located in Delaware, Ohio, and a 2011 Division III NCAA tournament participant, on the lacrosse field since 1996 after meeting nearly 50 times prior. Canisius, located in Buffalo, N.Y., and a member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), includes former Buckeye Brian Lalley on its coaching staff.
