Mitch Richeson was named First Team All-Big Ten following his performance at the 2005 Big Ten Championships in Minneapolis, Minn. Richeson, a senior from Greenwood, Ind. (Greenwood), won the 1-meter springboard on the opening night of competition with 367.60 points. Richeson returned the following night to grab second place in the 3-meter with 650.20 points.
Rob Kauscher (Sr., Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) was honored with the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award. The award, in its first season of presentation, is awarded to one student-athlete on each team as determined by the coach. Kauscher placed fourth in both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke events. He recorded times in each event that were the second fastest times in Ohio State history.
The Buckeyes finished the Big Ten championships in sixth place with 293 points. The team broke into the school’s all-time Top 5 list in nine different events during the meet. Seventeen of the swims earned NCAA `B’ qualifying times and 14 were United State Nationals qualifying times.
Buckeye divers next travel to West Lafayette, Ind., March 11-13, for the NCAA Zone Qualifying Regional. Select Buckeye swimmers will travel to Bloomington, Ind., March 5, for the Indiana Last Ditch in an attempt to improve or acquire NCAA qualifying times.
