COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State men’s volleyball Mik Berzins has been named the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Defensive Player of the Week for his play against Grand Canyon. Playing outside hitter in the 3-0 win at Grand Canyon, he handled 20 serve receptions without an error with 13 (.650) being converted to kills. Berzins recorded three digs and had two (.667) converted to kills. He added three kills (.286), two ace serves and one assist block in the match. Against the Antelopes, Berzins averaged 1.83 points, 1.00 kills, .67 aces, 1.00 digs and .33 blocks per set while hitting .286. He has been played, where needed this season, with nine starts at libero and nine at outside hitter. In his last nine matches (five at outside hitter and four at libero, Berzins has a .995 serve reception percentage, handling 184 of 185 attempts. This is his second Defensive Player of the Week honor this season.
Third-ranked (tie) Ohio State (16-2 overall, 9-0 Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association) plays at Grand Canyon (8-16, 0-5) tonight.
